Lesley Lee & Izzy
My name is Izzy (or The Princess, as I am
more commonly known), together with my
human Lesley I have been doing agility
since the beginning of the year. I am a two
year old English Springer Spaniel and I live
on a lifestyle block in Invercargill with Mac
the Labrador, Sam the German Shepherd
cross and a Springer puppy called Piper. I
like to spend my time chasing ducks and
chickens, somehow the humans don’t
seem happy when I catch them though. I
also enjoy chasing seagulls on the beach,
although I haven’t managed to catch any of them yet!
This will be the first time at NZDAC for both me and the human, we will do our best, have fun and learn lots watching all the great dogs. Good luck to everyone, happy running.
Leesa Todd & Cass
My husband Jim and I live with our 3 Labradors in Allanton, Mosgiel, Dunedin. My first Labrador was Brooke I competed with her in Gundog Trials with good success as I made her up to a Field Trial Champion as well as winning the New Zealand Retriever champion in 2003. When I got my next Lab Tess we struggled at Gundog trials she just didn’t seem to be able to mark her retrieves. I joined the Taieri Canine Training Club with Tess in frustration with her gundog trialling ability. Shortly after joining the club Tess was diagnosed with a genetic disease called PRA which causes a dog to go blind, hence the trouble with 100 meter marking retrieves. While we waited for the inevitable to happen I continued with Tess at agility,
advancing out of Starters into Novice/Intermediate. After retiring Tess I had a period without a dog. We were waiting for a well bred Labrador from a gundog background to be born. Along came Cass she has a lot to live up to as her parents are both Grand Field Trial Champions. While we haven’t competed at gundog trials since she won the South Island Novice in 2015 I am sure we would have competed well.
Agility has kicked in and taken over from gundog trials. Cass and I are extremely proud to be in the Zone 5 team and hope to represent my club and Zone 5 well at NZDAC. Thanks to all the help from the many agility people. There are too many of you to mention in this article, but you know who you all are and I truly thank you for all your wisdom and help. Without you guys I wouldn’t be writing this and be part of the Zone 5 Team.
