This year has been a quiet year for me as far as competing goes. I retired Knight after the NZDAC last year leaving me with only Flick to run. Unfortunately, she picked up an injury early in the year and has been out of competition ever since. At the time of writing this we are not sure if she will get to compete at the NZDAC this year. Anyway, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining and because I haven’t been able to compete much, I have taken on more judging assignments. Despite some of my grizzles from time to time, I do enjoy judging and in particular setting course challenges that hopefully people enjoy. It gives me the opportunity to watch up close a range of different dogs and handling styles which is sometimes helpful for instructing other handlers.
My highlight this year was being
asked to judge at the Queensland
state agility championship in
Australia. And following on from
that being asked to judge in
Victoria which unfortunately I had
to decline because of other
commitments. Next year maybe?
Close behind this is being asked to
judge at the NZDAC. I always
consider it an honour to be asked
to judge at “the Nationals” so
thank you to the organising
committee for offering me the opportunity. I just hope my courses live up to people’s expectations of what they should get at the NZDAC.
I am starting to look forward to next year as my new dog Kruze (or Tom as some call him) will be start competing. Be forewarned that I have not done a lot of work with him which is actually a good thing. This has meant Elaine has spent a lot more time with him and he is looking very good. I have started working with him a lot more now so hopefully by the end of year our team work will be on song.
Hope you all enjoy the NZDAC this year.
