Regardless of strict urban dog access rules, we are still surrounded by many parks for long walks or ride bikes with dogs running alongside. If anybody would have told me that I would represent 1⁄5 of the country I would have thought they were joking, but it happened and it’s amazing to be picked. I feel incredibly lucky and honoured to be part of our great team and of this dog sport. Good luck to all the other competitors. Go Zone 1! Carol & Belle My name is Carol Taylor. I belong to Mangawhai DTC. This will be my first time as a zone team member and a first for our club. I have enjoyed competing in agility for the last few years, I find agility is a great sport that I can enjoy and share with my daughter who now competes with her own dogs. I have owned a variety of purebred and crossbred dogs and try to learn from each one, each dog is unique. My current dog Belle, is my first competitive agility dog she is a heading dog x poodle, with the current craze of joining names club members have dubbed her the ‘Hoodle’. Belle is ball mad and will tell you if you’re not paying her enough attention. Belle has proven to be a good allrounder for me to learn with, we have participated in most disciplines attaining Rally, Flygility, Jumpers and Agility titles which is really exciting. I am nervous, blown away and excited to represent zone 1 in the team trophy, good luck to all team representatives and competitors. Hayley & Swift Swift is a five-year-old heading dog who is by our Knight. Swift is my second dog I've trained for agility, and this will her first time representing Zone 1. This will be my second time making the team, last year I qualified with my mum’s dog Bolt. I've been around dogs and agility for most of my life, was carted off to shows when I was a baby and never really looked back. Swift has been out of agility for most of last year due to having surgery in both shoulders. She has just really made a comeback April this year and has achieved more than I expected already. Swift is a cool little dog, with some strange traits. When it comes to agility she can get quite stressed and sometimes won't even run, which could make this a little interesting. Lol Good luck everyone!! Page 39
